Valentine’s day is known for giving flowers, and chocolate to your loved ones, but is that what it’s really meant to be about?
We asked students at Riddlesdown about what they thought Valentine’s Day is about.
The responses from the students were that it’s a day about affection and love towards one another. However we know the true meaning of Valentine’s Day.
Valentine’s Day is a celebration of Saint Valentine. Saint Valentine was imprisoned for performing weddings to soldiers who were forbidden to marry. When he was caught doing this, he was sent to execution. Before he died, his last dying words to his daughter were “for you my Valentine”.
Valentine’s day is now remembered for what Saint Valentine did for the soldiers. Although over time it has evolved to be about how partners show affection for each other.
